Cebu continues to grow and progress despite the difficulties it has gone through over the past two years. Buildings are rising, businesses are multiplying, and hopes are high for a bright future.

The newest building at the entrance to Cebu IT Park is Cebu Exchange, the state-of-the-art building developed by Arthaland, the only real estate developer in the Philippines with a portfolio 100% certified as sustainable by local and global organizations.

An afternoon affair dubbed “Advancing Net Zero Cebu” introduced Cebu Exchange to people in the fourth area. Ryan Villaflores, Arthaland’s Public Relations Consultant, and Sydney Lizares, Head of Marketing, acted as program hosts and got the ball rolling with a video presentation from Arthaland’s Vice President and President, Jaime C. Gonzalez, discussing plans in Cebu.

He proudly said, “With over 25 acres of gross floor area and five floors of prime retail space, Cebu Exchange is the largest office development vying for net zero certification. Decarbonizing its operational energy is expected to reduce carbon emissions equivalent to planting and growing one million trees over a 10-year period. He also disclosed that construction of Lucima, Arthaland’s flagship residential condominium located in Cebu Business Park, is underway and is envisioned to be the first certified quadruple high-rise residential development in the country.

Vice President Oliver L. Chan was on hand to welcome guests and provide an overview of the two Arthaland projects. He then led the way to the 12th-floor terrace garden to show off the beautifully landscaped, wraparound open space that offered picture-perfect views of the Cebu skyline.

Much of the afternoon activity was the unveiling of two Lucima model units. Both units had a thoughtful floor plan and their tropical motif added to the cheerful appeal. In addition, Lucima has obtained LEEDS Gold pre-certification by the US Green Building Council.

At Meerea High Street, along Ouano Ave. in the North Reclamation area, is a new watering hole for young and old. It is called RUE – La Maison de la Bière au Caramel. A resto bar that has its origins in Metro Manila, it began as Rue Bourbon, a takeoff of the famous Mardi Gras festival at Bourbon St. in New Orleans, USA. It has since expanded to six branches throughout the metro and now has its first branch in the VisMin area, thanks to Mendoza siblings Elisha, Jeric and Jeff who are the Cebu franchisees.

RUE in Cebu is the seventh branch and the only one outside of Metro Manila. The place is cozy and welcoming with its well stocked bar and delicious food. There is an outdoor area as well as a private room with KTV for 10-12 people. It is open from 5:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. every day except Friday and Saturday when closing time extends until 3:00 a.m.

Opening day was a fun affair with lots of food and drink, music and dancing. Entertainment galore with fireworks and fire dancers marked this beautiful lively evening.
