SantaCon NYC: MTA bans alcohol on LIRR and Metro-North trains during event

Partygoers who hope to start the party early or continue it on the way home are out of luck.
The MTA bans alcohol on trains and platforms on Long Island Rail Road and Metro-North from 4 a.m. Saturday until noon Sunday.
Additional MTA police officers will be on hand at Penn Station and Grand Central Terminal to take away any alcohol and issue summons.
“Passengers may be returning to the train for the first time since the start of the pandemic,” MTA Police Chief Joseph McGrann said. “It is important that we do everything possible to maintain orderly trips so that everyone can enjoy their vacation plans by getting to their destination smoothly and on time.”
This year’s Santa Con Pub Crawl begins at 11 a.m. Saturday at 40th Street and Broadway.
The organizers ask participants to obey the city’s vaccine requirements.
The annual event was canceled last year due to the pandemic.
